Have you ever wondered what happens to the artifacts from the Blackbeard’s Queen Anne’s Revenge once they are recovered from the bottom of the ocean? The North Carolina Maritime Museum will host a conservator from the Queen Anne’s Revengeconservation lab in Greenville from 10 a.m. to Noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Conservators will be available every Wednesday to answer questions about the processes required to conserve the thousands of artifacts that have been recovered from the Queen Anne’s Revenge site.  Free Admission. Beach Sweep

We will be cleaning up the Radio Island Public Beach Access and Rock Jetty.

Not a diver? Scuba divers and non-diving friends and families will participate in a beach and underwater cleanup of the access. This event is open to the public for divers and non-divers alike, and is scheduled to meet at Discovery diving company before ehading to Radio Island. Non-diving participants will pick up litter on the beach and dunes. For divers, there will be prizes for the most litter, and weirdest litter collected underwater. After the cleanup, lunch will be provided for all participants at the dive shop. Scuba gear can be signed out for free at Discovery Diving Company for participants of this event while inventory lasts.

Build a Stitch & Glue Kayak/Canoe

Each participant in this five- to seven-day class will use the stitch and glue method to build a boat, preselected in consultation with the instructor from a range of styles. Suitable types include performance kayaks 11-14 feet long, 17-foot sea/ touring kayaks, 12 to 14-foot canoes, or a 12-foot pram or rowboat. Living History Weekend

3rd Annual Sports Center Chum Run

The 3rd Annual Chum Run, is the first event of its kind on the Crystal Coast. It is a 5k obstacle course that will take place at Camp Albemarle. There will be approximately 15 obstacles of all types including an open water swim that will challenge participant’s strength and endurance. This year we will be having a Little Chummers Run for ages 7-15 years old to make this a fun and family-friendly event. Participants will swim, jog, crawl, climb, slide and jump their way to the finish line where fans, refreshments and showers will be waiting.

New for 2017... a new location! This year's race will be held at Camp Albemarle (in Newport, NC).

There will be multiple heats for participants of different ages and ability levels. A timing system will be provided for a select number of heats but the object is to have fun and complete the event, not to finish first.

Must be 16 years of age to participate in main event. Little Chummers race open to ages 7-15.

Participants can choose whether to complete both the run and the swim, or just the run. Participants must complete both the run and swim to be eligible for awards.

Olde Beaufort Farmers’ Market

The Olde Beaufort Farmers’ Market will be focusing on kids at its Saturday, September 30thmarket on the courthouse square from 8:30 until 1:00. There will be lots of activities for children of all ages to enjoy and learn from along with the usual excitement of a large diverse group of vendors offering their wares and products to the public.  Lunch will be served by La Cocina del Coqui, a food truck which prepares delicious Latin American and Puerto Rican food.  Spend your Saturday morning browsing through this wonderful market in the shade of the huge, old oaks and soak up the joyful vibe of this small town gathering event.

Emerald Isle Beach Music Festival

After 17 years of not hosting this event on the beach of Emerald Isle it came back in 2016. Over 9,000 joined last summer and I can see this close to doubling now. Make Plans early!

This year's free concert will again take place on the beach strand at the Western Ocean Regional Access from 11 am - 5:30 pm, and promises to be another great Emerald Isle event!

Behind the Scenes: Aquarium Close Encounters

Beer, Bubbles & BBQ

Beer, Bubbles and BBQ is the largest event during Beaufort Wine and Food's two-day craft beer festival - BEAUFORT'S BREWIN'.

The event will feature dozens of craft breweries from across North Carolina and beyond, all descending on Eastern Carteret County to offer a truly unforgettable culinary experience. Enjoy a variety of food samplings from local and regional chefs and cast your vote for your favorite BBQ entry during the BBQ competition! Bragging rights are on the line and the winning chef will be able to donate prize money to a charity of their choice. Live music and lawn games will round out the entertainment.
